PRINCE TECH WATER PROJECT – 2015 (FREE CLEAN WATER SUPPLY FOR NISE COMMUNITY)

According to the United Nations World Water Development Report 2024, over 2.2 billion people globally still lack safely managed drinking water services. Water insecurity is exacerbated by climate change, population growth, and infrastructure deficits, particularly in developing countries. The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that more than 829,000 people die each year from diarrheal diseases caused by unsafe drinking water, sanitation, and hygiene. Moreover:
- Every day, over 700 children under five die due to water-related diseases.
- 80% of illnesses in low-income countries are linked to poor water and sanitation.
- Without accelerated progress, the 2030 Sustainable Development Goal 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation for All) will remain out of reach for many vulnerable communities.
B. The Local Reality at Nise: Walking for Water, Living in Risk
In Prince’s hometown Nise, a community in Anambra State, Nigeria, this global crisis is lived out daily. Home to over 3,500 residents, including students from nearby tertiary institutions; Nise comprises four villages with no reliable access to potable water as of 2015. Families often walk more than 3 kilometers to reach a contaminated stream, or depend solely on rainwater harvesting, which is both seasonal and unsafe. The consequences are severe:
- Waterborne diseases such as typhoid, cholera, and diarrhea are prevalent.
- Women and children bear the burden of water collection, affecting school attendance and productivity.
- Healthcare costs for preventable diseases consume scarce household resources.

C. The Initiative: Launching the Prince Tech Water Project (Free Water Access)
Faced with this dire situation, and inspired by a deep commitment to community development, SDG 6, and sustainable innovation, Prince launched the Prince Tech Water Project in 2015. The goal was simple yet powerful: to provide clean, accessible, and free water to my community. Driven by the belief that basic access to water is a human right, the project was designed to:
- Drill borehole to ensure sustainability and resilience.
- Construct water access points for the community.
- Promote hygiene among residents.
D. Primary Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Addressed by the Project
1. SDG 6 – Clean Water and Sanitation
- This is the primary focus of the project.
- Aims to ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all.
- Tackles both access to clean water and water quality, especially in underserved rural areas like Nise.
2. SDG 3 – Good Health and Well-being
- Clean water reduces waterborne diseases such as cholera, diarrhea, and typhoid.

Today, the people of Nise wake up with dignity, hope, and health, no longer burdened by the daily quest for water.
