PRINCE TECH. WATER PROJECT: (NISE COMMUNITY)

According to Global Futures Studies and Research, water is the second global challenge facing humanity after climate change. Currently, over 783 million people still do not have access to safe drinking water and if a drastic action is not taken; the world is likely to miss the MDG sanitation target by almost 1 billion people. About 80% of diseases in the developing world are water related. At least 1 million children under five die every year due to unsafe water. Diarrheal in children under 15 has a greater impact than HIV, malaria, and tuberculosis combined.

Imagine waking up every morning and before taking your shower or cooking, you have to work a distance of over 3km to a derelict stream in order to get water that is very unhealthy and unfit for human consumption. This is the situation of my community (Nise) with 4 villages and over 3500 dwellers, including students of close by universities. Members of the community have resorted to a steam in the community and rainfall as their main hope for water.

Motivated to be a solution provider rather than part of the problem to be solved, driven by the passion to help achieve the UN SDGs (No 6), determined to rebuild; restore and achieve our Nation’s liberation and social emancipation, and also provoked by such atrocious observation; I swung into action and came up with an initiative tagged “PRINCE TECH. WATER PROJECT” aimed at providing clean and free water for my community (Nise). In 2015, the project planted the seed of hope in a land of despair and put smiles on the faces of the members of the community who have suffered so long as a result of unhealthy water supply, thus; contributing my own little quota in tackling water challenge which is regarded as the second global/pressing challenge after climate change.
