MOBILE PHONE REPROGRAMMABLE DIGITAL INFORMATION DISPLAY

A. Project Overview: In the speedy digital era, the communication of timely and appropriate information is more important than ever. Traditional static signs such as billboards and signposts; are increasingly becoming outdated, inflexible, and inefficient in capturing attention or responding to real-time communication needs. In response to this challenge, we present an innovative solution: the Mobile Phone Reprogrammable Digital Information Display. This invention is a dynamic electronic message board that can wirelessly display programmable information, including custom scrolling messages, date, time, temperature, and humidity. Unlike conventional static signs, this system draws attention through moving LED displays, making it ideal for both indoor and outdoor public communication.

At the heart of this design is the HD-W60 LED control card, a cost-effective yet powerful microcontroller-based display controller known for its rich visual effects and ease of integration. The user can easily update or edit the displayed content in real-time via a Wi-Fi-enabled mobile application, eliminating the need for technical reprogramming expertise or direct access to the system hardware.

B. Key Features of the System:

  • Wireless Content Update: Messages can be input, edited, or deleted through a mobile phone app via Wi-Fi.
  • Scrolling LED Display: Alphanumeric messages scroll smoothly on a matrix of Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs), offering high visibility and aesthetic appeal.
  • Real-Time Environmental Monitoring: Integrated DHT11 sensor continuously measures and displays the ambient temperature and humidity alongside the message content.
  • Date and Time Display: Automatically synchronized and updated digital clock included on the display.
  • User-Friendly Interface: Intuitive software enables seamless interaction and content management.
  • Versatile Applications: Suitable for use in schools, hospitals, marketplaces, transportation hubs, corporate offices, religious centers, and more.

C. Technical Overview:

  • Microcontroller: HD-W60
  • Sensor Used: DHT11 Temperature and Humidity Sensor (featuring a factory-calibrated NTC thermistor and integrated 8-bit microcontroller for accurate readings)
  • Display Medium: LED Matrix controlled via ON/OFF logic synchronized by the microcontroller and driver ICs
  • Communication: Wi-Fi (for remote message updates via mobile app)

D. Primary Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Addressed by the Project

1. SDG 9 – Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure: This project promotes innovation in information communication through the development of a dynamic, reprogrammable digital display system. It supports the growth of smart infrastructure by enabling real-time data sharing in public and private spaces.

E. Impact and Relevance: This project showcases a perfect blend of smart design and human-centric functionality, enabling real-time communication, environmental awareness, and mobile-based control. It particularly benefits settings where rapid and remote information dissemination is crucial and where conventional signage falls short.
